NIKE sponsored Paralympic Athlete Julian Bajada to take on 28km rowing challenge at Intersport Piazetta, SLIEMA

Paralympic Athlete Julian Bajada will be taking on a 28km indoor rowing challenge in aid of Malta Paralympic Committee. This challenge will be the longest ever distance to be rowed by a Paralympic Athlete in Malta and the equivalent of rowing from Mellieha to Sliema.

The challenge, which is sponsored by NIKE through Intersport, will take place at the Intersport store in Piazetta on 28 June 2022 at 6pm onwards.

Julian Bajada, a 28-year-old Paralympic Athlete who was born without one hand and with multiple physical impairments in both his legs, is today the Secretary General of the Malta Paralympic Committee and has made it his mission to empower individuals with physical impairments to unlock their full potential through Paralympic Sport. Through this challenge, Julian is aiming to raise €28,000 in funds to develop Malta’s first Paralympic Rowing Team. The funds raised will be invested in the necessary set-up to make this happen, including by purchasing Paralympic Rowing boats and adapted sports equipment, as well as supporting a Paralympic Rowing holistic sport development programme. The challenge also aims to raise awareness on Paralympic Sport to encourage others to join the movement. In Julian’s own words: “Paralympic Sport has the power to change lives, not only for individuals with physical impairments to believe in their own abilities and reach new heights, but for society to embrace the Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality.”

The challenge is being carried out in collaboration with Intersport and Siggiewi Rowing Club, Malta’s first all-inclusive rowing club to introduce Para Rowing. For more information about the challenge and how you can support, visit https://www.maltapara.com/rowingchallenge2022.

NIKE has made it a major priority to create a better world by championing disabled athletes and expanding sport for the next generation. This year, the brand celebrates Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) by acknowledging we are never done listening. Over 20 years ago, NIKE sought to lend an ear and gain insight through its disabled employees and the disability community, to better understand the importance of their needs and desires.

Today, it continues to listen whilst its inclusive design and forward-thinking technology helps create accessible solutions to celebrate all athletes. Learn more about what this looks like at Nike: https://lnkd.in/gkfjbuBX

The first Nike shoe was sold in Malta in 1987 through Hudson’s then company Time International (Sport) Ltd. Since then, Hudson has extended this representation to Africa, through an official contract which was reconfirmed in 2019 making Hudson the official distributor of NIKE in over 30 countries in Africa. This it does through a state-of-the-art distribution centre in Hal Far, Malta which spans a total area of 5,000 sqm. The centre receives the product and distributes it to various corners of the African continent.
