Role purpose
As a Sustainability Leader, you will play a crucial role in driving sustainability initiatives within our organization. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that promote environmental, social, and economic sustainability across all aspects of our operations. You will collaborate with various teams and stakeholders to integrate sustainable practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive positive change throughout the organization.
The key duties and responsibilities of the role are as follows:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, goals, and values.
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of sustainability programs and initiatives.
- Conduct thorough assessments of the organization’s environmental impact and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor and evaluate key sustainability metrics, track progress, and prepare regular reports to measure the effectiveness of sustainability efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability considerations into business operations, processes, and decision-making.
- Provide guidance and support to departments to ensure compliance with sustainability standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Stay updated on emerging sustainability trends, technologies, and regulations to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
- Act as a sustainability ambassador, both internally and externally, by promoting awareness, engaging stakeholders, and fostering a culture of sustainability.
- Develop and deliver training programs and workshops to educate employees on sustainability practices and encourage their participation.
- Engage with suppliers, customers, and community organizations to drive sustainability initiatives and foster strategic partnerships.
- Collaborate with marketing and communication teams to effectively communicate the organization’s sustainability efforts to stakeholders and the public.
- Represent the organization in sustainability conferences, events, and industry working groups to share best practices and contribute to thought leadership.
Core competencies, knowledge, and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- Proven experience (5 years) in a sustainability leadership role, driving sustainability initiatives within a corporate or organizational setting.
- Deep understanding of sustainability principles, frameworks, and best practices, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, carbon footprint assessment, life cycle assessment, and other sustainability measurement methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies and programs.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and deliver results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect and interpret data to drive decision-making.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to influence, motivate, and inspire individuals and teams towards sustainability goals.
- Certifications such as LEED, CSR, or GRI are highly desirable.
