Hudson Group is an international retailer and distributor primarily involved in the sport and fashion wear sectors. The Group’s head office is in Malta but is also present through offices in Italy, Cyprus, Morocco, Nigeria and Algeria.

Though Hudson Holdings was founded in 2006, the Group’s roots reach as far back as 1987 when the first pair of NIKE was sold in Malta.

Role purpose

As the Country General Manager in Malta, you will be at the forefront of driving territory development, overseeing store operations, and ensuring the successful execution of strategic initiatives. Reporting directly to the CEO, your role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, leading to the growth of our profitability in Malta.

The key duties and responsibilities of the role are as follows:

Execution of Territory Development Plan:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive territory development plan aligned with the Group’s overall strategic objectives.
  • Propose strategic locations for store openings and provide valuable input for store closures.
  • Oversee the execution of store openings and closures, ensuring a seamless and efficient process.
  • Play a key role in negotiations related to store rents, optimizing costs and ensuring favourable lease agreements.

Pricing Strategy:

  • Provide input to country pricing strategies, collaborating with central teams to align with market dynamics and customer expectations.
  • Monitor and analyse pricing performance, adjusting as needed to drive revenue growth.

Wholesale Opportunities:

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with local wholesale clients, exploring new wholesale opportunities in the market.
  • Collaborate with the central wholesale team to align strategies and maximize market potential.

Legal Compliance and Health & Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with local legal obligations, including health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to stay abreast of changes in regulations and implement necessary adjustments.

Retail Operations and Customer Experience:

  • Oversee retail operations, ensuring adherence to central guidelines and optimizing processes for efficiency.
  • Champion customer experience initiatives, ensuring a high level of service satisfaction.

Visual Merchandising Execution:

  • Drive the execution of visual merchandising strategies, creating compelling in-store displays that resonate with the brand image.
  • Collaborate with central VM teams to ensure alignment with global brand standards.

Organizational Structure:

  • Establish and optimize the organizational structure to align with central guidelines and support the efficient operation of the Malta market.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Retail Management, or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in a senior management role within the retail sector, with a focus on market development.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills with a track record of achieving revenue and profit targets.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with local market dynamics in Malta.
