Role purpose:

As Senior Logistics Manager, your primary responsibility is to oversee and drive the strategic direction and operational excellence of the logistics function across the group. You will be responsible for leading the team and coordinating logistics activities, including warehousing, transportation, and supplier relationships. Your role is critical in ensuring efficient supply chain operations, optimizing costs, and delivering exceptional customer service across the organization.

The key duties and responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  1. Strategic Planning and Leadership:
    • Develop and implement the logistics strategy aligned with the group’s overall objectives and growth plans.
    • Provide strategic direction, leadership, and guidance to the logistics team in different
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, cost optimization, and customer satisfaction.
  2. Team Management and Development:
    • Manage and oversee a team of Logistics Managers across different countries, ensuring effective coordination and collaboration.
    • Set performance goals, provide coaching and development opportunities, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and accountability within the logistics
  3. Logistics Operations:
    • Oversee and coordinate logistics activities, including warehousing & transportation
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless coordination between logistics, planning, commercial teams, and customer service departments.
  4. Supplier and Vendor Management:
    • Manage relationships with suppliers, vendors and logistics service providers, including carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and third-party logistics providers.
    • Negotiate contracts, service level agreements, and pricing terms to ensure cost- effective and efficient logistics services
  5. Performance Monitoring and KPIs:
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the performance and effectiveness of the logistics function.
    • Track and analyse KPIs related to cost optimization, on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, customer satisfaction, and other relevant metrics.
    • Regularly review performance data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions or improvement initiatives.
  6. Budgeting and Cost Management:
    • Develop and manage the logistics budget with ‘in country’ Logistics managers, ensuring cost-effective operations and adherence to financial targets.
    • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency gains, and process improvements within the logistics function.
    • Monitor and control logistics-related expenses, ensuring optimal utilization of resources against the expectations set by the Commercial Team, such as servicing and delivering.
  7. Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with local and international logistics regulations, customs requirements, and trade compliance standards.
    • Mitigate logistics-related risks by implementing appropriate safety measures, security protocols, and contingency plans.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices in logistics management.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field (preferred).
  • 5 years of experience in logistics management, including experience overseeing logistics operations across multiple countries or regions.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team across different
  • In-depth knowledge of logistics principles, best practices, and industry trends within the retail and wholesale sector.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and cost management within a logistics
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with logistics service providers.
  • Knowledge of international trade regulations, customs requirements, and compliance
  • Preferably, proficient in logistics software and systems, such as warehouse management systems (WMS), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on driving operational excellence and innovation in logistics processes.
