Role purpose

To execute all activities necessary to the efficient operation of the store, to support store management and provide prompt and courteous service to all customers in order to maximize sales and customer service so as to promote the company’s image of quality and professionalism.

The key duties and responsibilities of the role are as follows: 

  • Take ownership of any assigned section or department.
  • Assist and communicate with clients in all areas of sales, providing a highly personalised approach, offer guidance and suggest products specific to customers’ needs and requirement.
  • Work with team to meet set sales targets.
  • Stock, replenish and clean sales areas; monitor and update display areas.
  • Be able to train staff on product and product presentation/shop floor merchandising, ensuring store profitability and promoting the company culture.
  • Deal with customer complaints.
  • Execute cash and payment systems, credit, discounts, returns and exchanges in accordance with company procedures and policies.
  • Stamp or attach price tags on merchandise and/or checks tagged prices to verify accuracy referring to price list.
  • Check inventory periodically to obtain reorder information to replenish stock; inform designated staff member of stock requirements.
  • Stand in as assistant manager in absence of Store Manager.
  • Seek and inform management about competitor activity, pricing and tactics.
  • Ensure that shop is clean and tidy at all times.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

  • Experience working in a retail store, ideally occupying a supervisory or leadership role
  • Familiarity with financial and customer service principles
  • Proficient user of MS Office
  • Leadership and organizational abilities
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Problem-solving attitude
  • Flexibility to work in shifts.
