Merchandise Planner

The Planner’s role is to assist the Senior Buyer & Planner in the creation of the Product strategy and implementation of the company strategy by delivering a product offer that exceed customers’ expectations and achieves sales and profit targets through effective stock management.

Profit Maximisation

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, sales and profit targets;
  • Monitor performance against plan, highlighting opportunities and risks to Buyer and Senior Buyer & Planner;
  • Suggest actions to maximise sales and profit and reduce stockholding whilst increasing stock turn;
  • Achieve maximum full price sales and planned margin;
  • Communicate trading issues and forecasts with proposed actions to senior management and Buyer;
  • Propose and implement mark-down activity to reduce old stock and promotions to drive trade and maximise profit.

Range Building and Planning

  • Produce historical analysis to assist Senior Buyer & Planner in development of product strategy;
  • In conjunction with the Buyer, agree a financial framework with Senior Management within which a balanced, commercial and profitable range is built;
  • Produce market and customer information together with historical data to develop the department’s phased plans;
  • Produce analysis of store trading performance in order to assist the Senior Buyer & Planner in optimizing the product space mix for all stores
  • Continuously monitor market activity, through regular shop visits, gathering market intelligence from a wide variety of sources, and feeding back to Senior Buyer & Planner.

Inventory/Commitment Management

  • Utilise the WSSI to manage the intake of stock in line with agreed stock levels;
  • Proactively manage the order book in line with agreed intake levels;
  • Assist in delivery of core line strategy to maximise product availability through reforecasting and replenishment;
  • Manage initial allocation of product by store, including presentation stocks;
  • Optimise store sell through by managing replenishment parameters;
  • Support the Planner to deliver availability of stock by:
  • ensuring planned launch and replenishment dates are met;
  • proposing and actioning store to store transfers where appropriate.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers;
    • Proactively manage the order book in line with agreed intake levels;

    • Be proactive
    • Be logical and analytical in their approach
    • Have advanced experience using Excel
    • Preferably hold a degree level of education In Commerce, Analytics or related field.
    • Have relevant work experience
