Hudson, together with its leading sports brand NIKE, are delighted to announce themselves as technical sponsors for the Malta Male and Female National Rugby Team. This will be the first time Hudson sponsors Malta’s National Rugby Team, a steadily growing sport in Malta.
The official press conference, held on Thursday 2nd November, unveiled these new kits and included the participation of the team’s committee, its players as well as Hudson’s Sports Brand Director.
The National Rugby Malta Kit, made with NIKE Dri-FIT innovation features lightweight, breathable mesh, showcasing NIKE as the technical sponsor. The new design incorporates the Maltese national colours as well as the eight-pointed cross; serving as a symbol of the country’s identity, embodying the distinctive history and culture that define the Maltese people.
Malta’s Rugby National Team
On November 18, 2000, Malta’s National team had their first match against Moldova in Chişinău, which Moldova won with a score of 58-8. In the following year, 2001, Malta participated in four matches, and they secured their first-ever victory in the fourth match, competing against Monaco in Marsa, Malta.
Currently, the Malta rugby team holds a spot in the top 10 of the world rankings, marking a remarkable ascent within the International Rugby League (IRL) classification. It made a significant leap from the 15th position to the 10th, achieving its highest-ever ranking, which may be the highest among all team-based sports practised in Malta.This places the national team ahead of several other highly valued national teams, including Italy, Scotland, and Ireland. It’s worth noting that most of the players and staff continue to self-finance a substantial portion of their international activities.
In addition, the World Rugby Rankings placed the Malta National Rugby Team at the 45th position out of 112 countries that were part of the ranking system.
